With his private practice at Life Fourways Hospital, Dr Lerato Nhlapo offers the full range of orthopaedic services related to joint replacements, hand, shoulder, foot and ankle surgery, limb reconstruction and deformity correction, pelvic trauma surgery as well as sports injuries of the hip, knee and ankle.

Born and raised in the East Rand, Dr Lerato Nhlapo pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Town, where he graduated in 2006 with a distinction in pre-clinical medicine. After graduation, Dr Nhlapo went on to complete his internship at the Helen Joseph Hospital Complex, followed by his community service year at the S.A. Army Gymnasium in Heidelberg.

After this, Dr Nhlapo worked for a non-profit organisation known as Right To Care, who are involved in the treatment and management of HIV patients at Helen Joseph Hospital. It was during this time that he obtained his Diploma in HIV Management under the College of Family Physicians of South Africa.

In 2013 he began his registrar training in orthopaedic surgery in the Johannesburg circuit. After qualifying as a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon through the Fellow of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 2017, he completed his Masters in Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand.

With his expertise, Dr Nhlapo has also been actively involved in the training and supervision of specialists-in-training and medical students, as well as participating in studies that were being carried out in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University.

With extensive knowledge in the field of orthopaedic surgery, he worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in the lower limb trauma unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the third largest hospital in the world. While being actively involved in the tertiary hospital environment, treating a myriad of orthopaedic conditions and fractures some of which were complex fractures referred from other hospitals (especially pelvic and hip fractures), Dr Lerato Nhlapo has gained ample experience in orthopaedic trauma injury management, considering it as his niche.
